These
days most organizations of any size, create and publish carefully crafted
proclamations such as mission statements, manifestos, mantras and defining
principles, Some of these declarations are lengthy and detailed, while others
are condensed to a few abstract words. Many of these are well thought out,
while others copy popular fads and gimmicks. Regardless of their style,
unfortunately the vast majority of these writings share a common fate --
they are quickly ignored. |

Crain’s belief is that while the creation and statement of one’s
mission, goals, values, etc. is important, they are of little significance
to an organization’s long-term success if they are not utilized. Seeking
to guide Crain on a continuous journey in pursuit of excellence, and rejecting
one-size-fits-all formulations, Crain’s team carefully studied the
various values and principles that have both worked, and not worked, for
our organization. Then our team compiled a practical, comprehensive and
most importantly executable, list of those values and principles that can
serve our organization on a sustainable drive for success. The value of
Crain’s Core Practices is not in their eloquence, but in their effectiveness
as a living guide. |
